Rockets' Kevin Porter Jr. Arrested After Allegedly Attacking Girlfriend in Manhattan Hotel Room

Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested in New York City after being charged with assault and strangulation following an alleged attack on his girlfriend at a Manhattan hotel.

Porter, aged 23, is accused of physically assaulting his 26-year-old girlfriend, including hitting her and putting his hands around her neck. She was taken to a hospital with a facial injury.

This incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. at the Millennium Hilton near the United Nations in Manhattan, as reported by the police.

As of Monday afternoon, Kevin Porter Jr. remained in police custody. It is unclear if he has legal representation at this time.

The Houston Rockets released a statement saying they are currently gathering information about the situation and have no further comments to provide at this time.

Kevin Porter Jr., a first-round draft pick in 2019, has played four seasons in the NBA. He signed a four-year extension with the Rockets last year after averaging 19.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game.

Porter's career has been marked by off-court problems, including a previous arrest in 2020 for gun possession and marijuana, which resulted in dismissed charges.

The NBA fined Porter $50,000 in April 2021 for violating COVID-19 health and safety protocols by visiting a Miami strip club. In January 2022, he was suspended by the Rockets for a game after a halftime outburst.
